I never told my in-laws that my father is the President of the Supreme Court.

A hidden truth
Anna had kept an important secret from her husband’s family. They believed she was an orphan with no influence or support. In reality, her father was a powerful figure: William Thorne, the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. She had hidden this truth because she wanted to be loved for who she was, not for her family name.

A painful Christmas dinner
On Christmas Eve, Anna—seven months pregnant—spent the entire day preparing dinner for her husband David’s wealthy family. Exhausted and in pain, she asked to sit down for a moment. Instead of compassion, she received criticism. Her mother-in-law Sylvia mocked her cooking and told her, “Servants don’t sit with the family.”

Violence and betrayal
When Anna tried to rest, Sylvia angrily shoved her. She fell backward and hit the kitchen counter, suffering severe pain and bleeding. Anna begged for help, fearing she was losing her baby, but David refused to call an ambulance. Concerned about his reputation, he even destroyed her phone to stop her from calling for help.

The phone call that changed everything
In desperation, Anna asked David to call her father. Mocking her, he dialed the number and put the call on speaker. The voice on the line identified himself: “This is William Thorne, Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court.” The room fell silent as David realized the truth about the woman he had mistreated.

Justice and a new beginning
Authorities arrived soon after, and David and Sylvia were arrested. Months later, David was sentenced to prison while Sylvia also faced punishment for her role. Anna recovered and began rebuilding her life. Determined to honor what she had endured, she decided to study law, believing that “the law belongs to those willing to fight for it.”
