I married my high school sweetheart after 15 years together

For fifteen years, Corinne believed Wesley was the love of her life. They met when she was sixteen, shortly after her mother died, and he comforted her during one of the hardest moments of her life. Even though Wesley delayed marriage for years, Corinne trusted his promises. When he finally proposed, she believed the long wait had been worth it. Five months later, they married at her grandmother’s old house, where their love story had begun.

On their first anniversary, however, Corinne overheard Wesley on the phone. “She still thinks the whole thing is some big love story,” he said. Then came the words that shattered everything: “Tonight, I finally finish what I started. Once she signs, we’re done waiting.” Suddenly, his secret calls, locked drawer, and unusual interest in her late mother’s property made sense.

When Wesley’s secret visitor arrived, Corinne was horrified to discover it was her stepmother, Deirdre. They presented documents asking her to transfer the property into a holding company. The land had become extremely valuable because developers wanted to build nearby. Deirdre admitted she had been working toward getting the property for years and had influenced Wesley from their teenage years.

Wesley confessed that Deirdre had financially helped his family and expected him to persuade Corinne to sell. When that failed, marriage became the next strategy. Corinne realized that fifteen years of love had been mixed with manipulation. Deirdre urged her to sign, promising everyone would benefit, but Corinne refused.

Fortunately, Corinne had already contacted her attorney months earlier after becoming suspicious of Wesley’s documents. She had kept copies and later recorded the conversation. Her lawyer uncovered payments and emails connecting Wesley to the scheme. Corinne filed for divorce, protected the property, and ended the marriage.

Years of memories could not be erased, but Corinne finally understood that her love had been genuine even if Wesley’s intentions were not. Sitting on her grandmother’s porch, she removed her wedding ring and realized she no longer needed to wonder what she had lost. She could finally think about what she would do with the years that were still hers.
