Few people know that the name M&M’s comes from the surnames of two men whose partnership in 1941 helped create one of the world’s most popular candies. Forrest Mars Sr. and Bruce Murrie joined forces, combining their resources and ideas to develop a chocolate treat that would eventually become famous worldwide.

Mars brought the original idea, while Murrie helped secure the chocolate supply through his father, who was an executive at Hershey.
