Found in a house from 1907. Any guesses on what it could be?

At first glance, this strange metal object looks more like an old-fashioned trap than an ordinary household tool. Discovered inside a house dating back to 1907, it features a circular frame, a narrow shape, and dozens of sharp metal hooks pointing outward. Its unusual appearance makes it difficult to guess what it was originally used for.

However, the object is actually an **antique bottle-drying rack**, also known as a bottle tree or bottle dryer. Before modern dishwashers and countertop drying racks became common, these devices helped households dry multiple glass bottles at once. After washing, bottles were placed upside down over the metal arms, allowing leftover water to drain while fresh air circulated around them.

These racks were especially useful when families regularly reused glass bottles for milk, homemade drinks, preserves, and other liquids. Instead of throwing containers away, people washed and reused them many times. A large drying rack provided several spaces for bottles, keeping them organized while taking up relatively little room.

Despite its intimidating appearance, **this wasn’t a trap or some bizarre device for punishment—the object was an old bottle-drying rack**. Its unusual design reflects a time when reusing glass containers was a normal part of everyday life. Finding one inside a house built in 1907 offers a small glimpse into the practical household items people relied on more than a century ago.
