A man called home from work and was surprised when an eight-year-old girl answered the phone. He asked if her mother was there, and the child calmly explained that Mommy was upstairs in the bedroom with “Uncle Paul.” Confused because he knew no one by that name, the man decided to find out what was happening. He told the girl to go upstairs and announce that Daddy’s car had arrived.
A few moments later, the little girl returned with shocking news. She explained that her mother had panicked when she heard the announcement, rushed out of the bedroom, fallen down the stairs, and stopped moving. Meanwhile, Uncle Paul had jumped out of the bedroom window to escape, landing in an empty swimming pool.
The man was silent for a moment, trying to understand what he had just heard. Then he suddenly focused on one surprising detail. “Swimming pool?” he asked. “We don’t have a swimming pool.” His confusion quickly turned into suspicion that something was terribly wrong.
He decided to check the phone number, asking the girl, “Is this 486-5731?” The child calmly corrected him: “No, this is 486-5713.” The two numbers were almost identical, but the difference revealed the terrible truth.
The man had called the wrong house and accidentally caused panic in a stranger’s family. After realizing what had happened, he had nothing more to say than a simple apology: “Sorry, wrong number.”
