Christopher North, founding keyboardist of Ambrosia, has died at 75. The band shared the news with a heartfelt tribute, calling him the “Hammond B3 King” and honoring his lasting impact on music and their lives.
They described him as “a keyboard wizard who brought an unmatched intensity and emotional depth to every performance.” His powerful stage presence and passion became a defining part of the band’s identity, remembered for its energy and emotion.
North co-founded Ambrosia in 1970 with David Pack, Joe Puerta, and Burleigh Drummond. Though he left briefly in 1977, he later returned and continued shaping their sound. The band gained recognition for songs like Biggest Part of Me and How Much I Feel.
In recent years, he faced health issues, including “a brave and successful battle with throat cancer.” Despite this, his connection to music and fans remained strong.
Reflecting on his legacy, the band said his work “created ‘aural landscapes’ that balanced virtuosity with soulful, radio-friendly hooks.” They remembered him as a unique and deeply loved artist whose music will endure.
