When we moved into our new home, our neighbor quickly showed she had strong opinions about parking. Even though there were no rules, she believed each household should have only one car. This became clear when we found a note telling us to move our “extra” car “or else.”
We ignored it at first, since both cars were legally parked. But a few days later, we woke up to noise outside and found tow trucks taking our vehicles, while the neighbor stood nearby, pleased. She said, “Maybe now you’ll listen when someone tells you the rules.”
Instead of arguing, I laughed. When she asked why, I explained she had made a serious mistake. Our cars had special permits as part of a government program, and towing them illegally could lead to heavy fines.
The towing company quickly realized the problem and stopped. The neighbor’s confidence disappeared as she understood the consequences. “I didn’t know…” she said, clearly shaken.
I replied, “Maybe next time you’ll think twice before trying to make up your own rules.” Since then, she has avoided us completely and never mentioned parking again. Sometimes, people create their own consequences without anyone needing to step in.
