Rue21, the teen fashion retailer known for its affordable and trendy clothing, is closing all 543 of its stores across the United States, marking the end of its long presence in the retail industry.

The closure process is expected to take several weeks and will include large clearance sales, with discounts starting around 20% and eventually dropping as low as 90%, attracting many bargain shoppers.

The decision follows financial struggles, as the company was unable to secure bids strong enough to keep the business running during legal proceedings. This led to the final choice to shut down all locations.

Around 5,000 employees are affected by the closures, and the impact is especially felt in states where Rue21 had a strong presence, including Texas, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.

The company’s closure highlights the growing challenges faced by traditional retail stores in the age of online shopping and changing consumer habits, marking the end of a well-known brand in teen fashion.
