Another Terrible Loss For The Bryant Family, Sending Prayers

Joe Bryant, father of Kobe Bryant, has passed away at 69 after suffering a severe stroke. La Salle University confirmed the news, calling him “a beloved member of the Explorer family” who will be “dearly missed.”

Joe Bryant built a strong basketball legacy of his own. As a standout college player, he averaged over 20 points per game, leading to his selection in the 1975 NBA Draft. He went on to play in the NBA with teams including the Philadelphia 76ers, earning respect for his skill and style on the court.

Beyond his career, his influence on Kobe was significant. Kobe often credited his father for teaching him how to “view the game, prepare for the game, and execute,” shaping the mindset that defined his legendary career.

Those who knew Joe remembered more than just his talent. He was described as “a local basketball icon,” admired for his passion and connection to the community. Former players and colleagues also saw him as a mentor and inspiration.

After his playing days, he continued contributing to the sport through coaching, including work in professional leagues. His legacy extends beyond statistics, defined by his impact on players, family, and the broader basketball world.
