Rita’s life was shaped by survival. For years, she lived on the streets, collecting bottles just to eat, facing hunger, cold, and deep loneliness. What once were dreams of stability slowly faded as hardship took over.
Her situation worsened after losing her only son. Grief led to isolation, and over time she became invisible to others. Despite wanting to work and rebuild her life, she was often ignored or dismissed because of her appearance.
Everything began to change when she met Shafag Novruz, a makeup artist who saw beyond the surface. Instead of treating her like a project, Shafag recognized her dignity and pain. She first arranged dental care, showing that Rita was “worth investing in,” before beginning a careful and respectful transformation.
The process went beyond appearance. With each step, Rita regained confidence and a sense of self. Watching herself change, her emotions surfaced, and she began to see her own value again.
Although the makeover didn’t solve everything, it gave her hope. Her story is a reminder that homelessness can come from loss, not failure—and that change can begin when someone chooses to truly see another person.
