Christopher North, founding member of Ambrosia, has passed away at 75, leaving behind a lasting legacy in rock music. Known for his unique sound, he was honored by the band as the “Hammond B3 King,” a title that reflected his powerful influence on their style.
He helped shape the band alongside David Pack, Joe Puerta, and Burleigh Drummond. His keyboard work became central to their identity, contributing to a distinctive blend of progressive and soft rock.
Bandmates remembered his deep passion for music and strong stage presence. Early in his career, he was known for being fully immersed in his craft, a dedication that carried through his life even while facing health challenges, including throat cancer.
North played on several of the band’s best-known songs, including “Biggest Part of Me,” “How Much I Feel,” and “Holdin’ on to Yesterday.” Even after stepping away in 1977, his later return showed how important he remained to the group’s sound and evolution.
His passing marks the loss of a “defining musical voice,” but his influence continues through his recordings and the fans who still connect with his work.
