White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter identified

Chaos erupted inside the Washington Hilton when gunfire suddenly broke the calm of a formal evening. The White House Correspondents’ Dinner had gathered political leaders and journalists, but the atmosphere shifted instantly as shots rang out. Guests dropped for cover while fear spread across the ballroom.

The moment was described as overwhelming, with confusion replacing celebration. As panic rose, some voices tried to steady the room, even as “God Bless America” echoed against the chaos. What had been a routine event turned into a scene of urgency within seconds.

Security moved quickly. Donald Trump was rushed out by agents, briefly stumbling before being escorted to safety. At the same time, officers confronted the suspect, later identified as Cole Tomas Allen, who had reportedly forced his way toward the ballroom armed with multiple weapons. He was subdued on the scene.

A United States Secret Service agent was injured during the response, though protective gear likely prevented more serious harm. Authorities say the suspect acted alone, and the situation was contained within minutes.

Afterward, officials described the attacker as a “sick” individual and praised the “quick and brave” response of law enforcement. The night ended with the event canceled, leaving behind a stark reminder of how quickly order can collapse—and how security efforts can still prevent greater tragedy.
