I recently met a woman at the supermarket, and we started seeing each other. One morning, I woke up thinking about her smile. Then everything changed.

“Ten seconds later, I was staring at a stranger in the mirror.”

My forehead was covered with red sores, yellow crust, and burning patches. Panic quickly turned into fear and shame. I replayed the previous night in my head, wondering what could have caused it.

“The search began—every possibility more terrifying than the last.”

By the time I called the doctor, my hands were shaking. It felt like my life had suddenly divided into a “before” and “after.” I feared the worst and struggled to stay calm while waiting for answers.

The diagnosis was unexpected: impetigo, a common and treatable skin infection. With antibiotics, ointment, and proper care, the condition could heal completely. The news brought relief, but the emotional weight did not disappear immediately.

“What stayed was the realization of how quickly normal can fall apart.”

Now, when I look in the mirror, I think less about the infection and more about how fragile life can feel. A peaceful night can suddenly become frightening, and certainty can disappear in an instant. Healing reminded me that even ordinary moments can change everything very quickly.
